Blog 2 - Course Readings

The choice of readings that are available for our class to pick as topics for a presentation are all very interesting and exciting to work with. The two readings that I am most interested in working with are Collins' "Friend Game" and Hayles' "Hyper and Deep Attention".

"Friend Game" by Lauren Collins is an article about a girl who committed suicide as a result of a Myspace online hoax. This article caught my attention immediately because situations such as this one are happening more often in our society. It is a very serious and horrible thing to be aware of. Almost every college student is familiar with Myspace, Facebook, and other online friend connecting websites. It is important for us to have safety precautions when it comes to using these kind of websites. I am very interested in discovering the details about the people and ideas used in creating this hoax, which unfortunately led to a girl's death.

Another article that I am interested in is "Hyper and Deep Attention" by Katherine Hayles. I am majoring in Education and I believe this article would give me a great insight into how our society is changing when it comes to students and children. I would also like to learn more about the difference between hyper attention and deep attention.

I am very eager to work with either of these articles because they are both fascinating and will keep me well-informed.
